Program Information
The Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) program is a rookie police academy offered for students interested in completing the certification to become a law enforcement officer in the state of North Carolina. Basic Law Enforcement Training is a police academy that provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required for entry-level employment as law enforcement officers with the state, county, or municipal governments, or with private agencies.
The North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission mandates the topics and methods of instruction. General subjects include, but are not limited to, criminal, juvenile, civil, traffic and alcohol beverage laws; investigative, patrol, custody and court procedures; emergency responses; and ethics and community relations.
Students must successfully complete and pass all units of study mandated by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission and the North Carolina Sheriffs’ Education and Training Standards Commission to receive a certificate and successfully complete the state comprehensive written examination to receive a certificate.
Many of our instructors are former and current law enforcement officers who bring the added value of their actual on-the-job experiences which enhances their ability to train our students.
